Until the merger with neighboring Mölkau in 1934, Zweinaundorf was an independent municipality south-east of Leipzig . With the incorporation of Mölkau into Leipzig, Zweinaundorf became a district of Leipzig in 1999.

history

The village emerged from two settlements that were first mentioned in a document in 1335: Kellners-Nuwendorf , which was called Schumanz-Nuwendorf from 1359 and later became a lower village, and Gottschalges-Nuwendorf , which later became the upper village. The increasing interweaving of the two settlements led to the name Zweinavendorf at the beginning of the 17th century . The Zweinaundorf estate (today: Stadtgut Leipzig-Mölkau) was first mentioned in a document in 1324 and today farms 150 hectares in organic farming. There is a large landscaped park, a kindergarten, an animal health practice and an equestrian club on the grounds of the estate.

The first church was consecrated on December 12, 1614. In the Thirty Years War , looting and pillage did not stop at Zweinaundorf either. From 1726 the manor belonged to the district administrator Thomas Wagner, from 1765 to the Leipzig mayor Rudolph August Schubart and from 1770 to the Leipzig law professor Karl Ferdinand Hommel . In 1835 Zweinaundorf had about 300 inhabitants. The place was until 1856 in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office Leipzig . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Leipzig I and from 1875 to the administrative authority of Leipzig .

Although the community had a stop on the newly built railway line Leipzig-Chemnitz from 1887 , the hope of the settlement of commercial enterprises was not fulfilled. Only one iron foundry started operations in 1905.

With the construction of around 200 houses by the Zweinaundorf e. V. Between 1924 and 1933, Zweinaundorf developed into a country house suburb. The number of inhabitants increased from 614 in 1900 to 1564 in 1933. After the negotiations started in 1929 with the city of Leipzig about an incorporation remained inconclusive, the merger with the municipality of Mölkau took place on January 1, 1934 . Out of consideration for several important companies located in Mölkau, the new community was given the name of the smaller Mölkau.

Together with Mölkau, Zweinaundorf was incorporated into Leipzig in 1999.
