It will be directed by David Yates.[2] The screenwriter will be Michael Goldenberg,[3] replacing Steve Kloves who wrote the screenplays for the first four films.[6] Producer David Heyman has said that the first teaser trailer for the movie is expected to come out sometime towards the end of 2006.[7] Warner Bros. has confirmed a North America and UK release date of July 13, 2007, both in conventional theaters and IMAX theaters.[1]

Filming locations
Confirmed locations
- Leavesden Studios: has been confirmed by many sources, including J. K. Rowling, that it will, once again, be the studio location for scenes (mostly interior)[15].
- Fort William: the Daily Telegraph has reported that Fort William will be used to show 'snow-capped mountains and glens' in the opening sequence of the film.
- Watford: where a reporter from the Australian television program "Sunrise" visited the set.
- Glenfinnan: in front of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument where Harry skips stones; the Hogwarts Express will also cross a viaduct here.[47]
- Glencoe, where a computer-aided helicopter shot scenes of Hagrid's Hut in Clachaig Gully.[47]
- Glen Etive.[47]
- River Thames: A monument-filled scene featuring Harry and the Order of the Phoenix's Advance Guard, as they fly around the famous London backdrop headed toward the Order of the Phoenix headquarters.[48]
- Blenheim Palace[49]
- Virginia Water, where Professor McGonagall recovers from the Stunning Spells that hit her.[50]
- Burnham Beeches, was used for filming the scene where Hagrid introduces his fifth-year Care of Magical Creatures class to Thestrals.[51]
Filming rumours
- Filming will take place in the UK, presumably in Alnwick, Gloucester, and Oxford where filming for the past four movies has taken place.
- Apparently, Scotland's weather this year isn't snowy enough for the glorious magical backdrop of Hogwarts. This has led to further information regarding the fifth film being filmed overseas - which may be the case: it is rumoured that Scandinavia may soon be the replaced location
- Producer David Heyman is considering doing some filming outside the UK. [52]
- Director David Yates is hoping to film a sequence (Wizard Chase) on the River Thames and through the London Suburbs.[53]
- Recent rumors have stated that filming has taken place at Butler's Wharf, near Tower Bridge in London, which would agree with Yates' above statement.[54]
- Savona, Italy: filming was rumored to take place around small medieval towns and castles. The rumor was subsequently debunked by Warner Bros.[55]

Trivia and rumours
- On February 5, fan site Harry Potter Fan Zone received pictures of Robbie Jarvis (picture) and Susie Shinner (picture), the two unknown teens playing James Potter and Lily Potter, respectively. The authenticity of the Jarvis picture has been confirmed.[30]
- David Heyman has confirmed that there will be a trailer for the movie by the end of 2006.[7]
- Composer Nicholas Hooper will compose music for this film, though Dario Marianelli was once rumored by IMDb and fan sites to score the movie. John Williams was also rumored to return after his absence from Goblet of Fire, but he is only credited as the composer of the themes.
- Miranda Richardson, despite speculation, stated she wouldn't be back and, David Heyman confirmed at a Goblet of Fire red carpet interview with The Leaky Cauldron that Rita Skeeter will not return.[44]
- Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) beat over 15,000 hopefuls at the open casting when she won the role.[3] It has been stated by BBC Newsround that it took one reporter 15 minutes to walk from one end of the queue to the other - which shows the enormous amount of hopefuls who wanted the role.
- Young Remus Lupin was rumoured to be played by Stuart Hastings though it was denied by WB that anybody is in negotiations on 2006-03-27.[65] On 25 May it was announced that James Utechin won the role and will play young Lupin.[12] Oddly enough, James Walters, who won the role of young Sirius Black, also tried out for the role of young Lupin.[11]
- On 1 April, Helen McCrory announced that she was three months pregnant.[66] On 25 May it was announced that Helena Bonham Carter will be playing the role of Bellatrix Lestrange.[12]
- Chris Rankin has confirmed that his character is going to be very obnoxious in the movie.[67]
- Harry's hair in this film installment will be quite short, as seen in the image on the right, compared to his hair in the previous four films which progressively grew longer.
- The film will be the third Harry Potter movie to be given a simultaneous release in conventional theaters and IMAX. [68]
- The film may be released in 3-D.[68]
- Robbie Coltrane, who plays Rubeus Hagrid, had finished filming his scenes as of July 15.[69]
- The film is said to be darker than the previous four.[49]
- It took three times to write the Deparment of Mysteries battle because the screenwriters had trouble deciding Dumbledore's role[58]
