Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (due out in 2007) is a film based on J.K. Rowling's fifth book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It will be directed by David Yates.[2] The screenwriter will be Michael Goldenberg,[3] replacing Steve Kloves who wrote the screenplays for the first four films.[6] Producer David Heyman has said that the first teaser trailer for the movie is expected to come out sometime towards the end of 2006.[7] Warner Bros. has confirmed a North America and UK release date of July 13, 2007, both in conventional theaters and IMAX theaters.[1]

Filming locations

Confirmed locations

Filming rumours

  • Filming will take place in the UK, presumably in Alnwick, Gloucester, and Oxford where filming for the past four movies has taken place.
  • Apparently, Scotland's weather this year isn't snowy enough for the glorious magical backdrop of Hogwarts. This has led to further information regarding the fifth film being filmed overseas - which may be the case: it is rumoured that Scandinavia may soon be the replaced location
  • Producer David Heyman is considering doing some filming outside the UK. [52]
  • Director David Yates is hoping to film a sequence (Wizard Chase) on the River Thames and through the London Suburbs.[53]
    • Recent rumors have stated that filming has taken place at Butler's Wharf, near Tower Bridge in London, which would agree with Yates' above statement.[54]
  • Savona, Italy: filming was rumored to take place around small medieval towns and castles. The rumor was subsequently debunked by Warner Bros.[55]

Confirmed scenes

The following scenes or plot elements have been confirmed to feature in the movie adaptation. Template:Spoiler

Dumbledore's Army

  • Harry teaching the D.A. in the Room of Requirement[56] [57]
    • Ron and Hermione practicing spells together[57]
    • Hermione blasting Ron against a wall due to a 'patronizing, sexist comment' – Emma Watson confirmed this in an interview with the Australian talk show "Sunrise." (Note that this is not in the book.)

Umbridge-related

  • Harry's trial at the Ministry[58]
  • Umbridge sacking Trelawney[59]
  • Fred and George's mayhem as they leave Hogwarts[44]
  • Umbridge and Inquisitorial Squad restraining Harry, Ron and Hermione right before Umbridge is led into the Forbidden Forest to be attacked by centaurs[60] (During this scene Harry gets slapped, perhaps by Umbridge, though this is not confirmed. He is not slapped in the book.)
  • Professor McGonagall being hit by Stunning spells when Umbridge and Ministry officials try to take Hagrid away.[50]
    • McGonagall's recovery, where she is in a wheelchair.[50] (picture)

General Hogwarts

Miscellaneous

  • All scenes relating to Privet Drive, such as the Dementor attack, not only by the casting of Arabella Figg but also because of the set reconstruction.[58]
  • Snowy Opening Sequence[62]
  • Kreacher-related scenes were confirmed by David Heyman, however there has been no casting announcement in relevance to Kreacher's voice artist.[46]
  • Harry and Cho's kiss[56]
  • Hogsmeade[49]
  • Harry arriving at Grimmauld Place in the Summer. The scene will take place near sunset.[48]
  • The Order of the Phoenix getting ready to fly to Grimmauld Place from Privet Drive[48]
  • Hagrid asking Harry and Hermione to leave the Qudditch match and see Grawp with him.[58]
  • Department of Mysteries/Ministry of Magic scenes[40] [63]

Confirmed due to casting

The following scenes, though not explicitly confirmed to feature by Warner Brothers or other associates of the film, are assumed to appear due to the casting of certain minor characters who would only appear in those scenes. The character(s) who would suggest the inclusion of the scene is (are) in parentheses.

Cut scenes

The following scenes or plot elements have been confirmed not to be in the movie adaptation.

Trivia and rumours

File:SneakpeakOotPposter.jpg
Order of the Phoenix promotional poster. (TV screencap)
  • Harry's hair in this film installment will be quite short, as seen in the image on the right, compared to his hair in the previous four films which progressively grew longer.
  • The film will be the third Harry Potter movie to be given a simultaneous release in conventional theaters and IMAX. [68]
  • The film may be released in 3-D.[68]
  • Robbie Coltrane, who plays Rubeus Hagrid, had finished filming his scenes as of July 15.[69]
  • The film is said to be darker than the previous four.[49]
  • It took three times to write the Deparment of Mysteries battle because the screenwriters had trouble deciding Dumbledore's role[58]
