Lego Dimensions is a video game by British developer TT Games for the PlayStation 4 , PlayStation 3 , Xbox One , Xbox 360 and Wii U game consoles . The action adventure was published in September 2015. Players can place real Lego figures and bricks on the so-called toy pad , making them playable in the game (“ toys-to-life ”). In late October 2017, Warner Bros. announced that it would be discontinuing Lego Dimensions before the 3-year plan was completed.

On the planet Vorton in the center of the Lego Multiverse, the evil Lord Vortech tries to find various elements with which he can rule the entire universe. However, these elements are scattered everywhere and so he lets different universes collide to get elements like the ruby red shoes from The Wizard of Oz or kryptonite from the DC universe. In the middle of this unified universe, the three characters Batman , Gandalf and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie meet, each of whom has lost a friend. Batman lost Robin , Gandalf lost Frodo and Wyldstyle Eisenbart. On their journey they not only meet other characters, like Marty McFly from Back to the Future , but also learn more and more about Lord Vortech and his plan and discover new, mysterious stones that give the characters special abilities.

Each of these universes offers its own open game world, which can be explored freely and is provided with quests and tasks. However, you need one of the respective characters to enter and unlock this world.
Gameplay
As in other Lego video games , you follow a linear story that includes 14 levels. Each level takes a different universe as a location (e.g. The Wizard of Oz ). The biggest novelty in this game, compared to previous Lego video games, is the toys-to-life system . You use real toys and insert them into the video game using a toy pad , the intersection between reality and game. The toy itself is not needed to play. Only the so-called toy tag attached to the toy is required. There are two different toy tags: the character toy tag, on which the characters are saved in advance, and the item toy tag, on which every vehicle or gadget can be saved and also overwritten. There is space for up to seven toy tags on the toy pad, which can be placed on it and taken at any time.
Since the update of November 3, 2015, characters that have previously appeared for a short time can be “borrowed” for in-game currency in order to solve special puzzles in the game.
