Şuşa (Rayon)
Şuşa ( Cyrillic Azerbaijani and Russian Шуша Shusha ) is a rayon in Azerbaijan with the capital of the same name, Şuşa . The rayon lies in the Nagorno-Karabakh region , which, as the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, is striving for independence from Azerbaijan. Since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1992, the rayon has been occupied by the Armenian army.
geography
The district has an area of 289 km² and is located in the mountains of Nagorno-Karabakh. There are several mineral springs.
population
The rayon had 241,165 inhabitants in 1992. It is inhabited by Armenians . The Kanatsch Scham church is in the center.
economy
The region is dominated by agriculture. It is mainly cattle breeding and vegetables and fruit are grown.
