ATP Champions Tour
The ATP Champions Tour is a tournament series for former professional tennis players .
Like the ATP Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour, it is organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals .
history
The ATP Champions Tour was founded in 1997 and was dominated by John McEnroe in the early years . Over the years, more and more former world class players have joined the tour. Especially Marcelo Ríos and Sergi Bruguera were later able to win several tournaments. McEnroe still occasionally participates in the tour and won the tournament in Stockholm in 2016 at the age of 57 (his 24th title on the Champions Tour).
Tournaments
Five to ten tournaments are played annually and they are held in different cities around the world.
Tournament locations
Since the start of the tour in 1997, the London tournament has been on the tournament schedule as the tour finale at the end of the season, while the venues for the other tournaments change.

Tournament schedule
Eight players take part in each tournament. They are divided into two groups of four. The first in each group contest the final, the second in the group play for third place. In addition, the tournament in Delray Beach at the beginning of the year serves as an encounter between a team from Europe and a team from the rest of the world, similar to the Laver Cup, which was launched in 2017 .

Eligibility to participate
All players who are over 30 years old, have finished their ATP World Tour career and also meet at least one of the following criteria are eligible to participate :
- Former number 1 in the world rankings
- Finalist in a Grand Slam tournament in singles
- Individual player on a Davis Cup winning team.
In addition, two wild cards can be awarded for each tournament .
So far, 15 world number one have played in the Champions Tour : Boris Becker , Björn Borg , Jim Courier , Stefan Edberg , John McEnroe , Jewgeni Kafelnikow , Carlos Moyá , Thomas Muster , Patrick Rafter , Marcelo Ríos , Andy Roddick , Pete Sampras , Mats Wilander , Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin .

Since 2017 there has been no ranking list on the official website of the tour, which means that tour winners can no longer be traced.
