Alexander Frühwirth (born February 23, 1969 in Kirchberg an der Wild ) is an Austrian biathlete and triathlete . He is included in the best list of Austrian triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Alex Frühwirth grew up on his parents' farm in Göpfritz an der Wild in Lower Austria .

Junior state champion biathlon

Before he started triathlon in 1994, he was a successful biathlete for six years. He became Austrian Junior State Champion in this sport and took part in the World Cup. When he was 25, he switched to triathlon.

National champion triathlon long distance 2000

In July 2000 in Klagenfurt he became national champion in the long distance triathlon with ninth place at the Ironman Austria . Between 2001 and 2007 Alexander Frühwirth won the Austria Triathlon in Podersdorf six times on the long distance triathlon (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

In 2002 he won the Krems Triathlon for the third time and in 2008 for the fourth time the Ausee Triathlon on the Olympic short distance.

World Champion Winter Triathlon 2008

In February 2008, Frühwirth became winter triathlon world champion in the M35 category at the Coolman in Freudenstadt (5 km running, 9 km mountain bike and 7 km cross-country skiing) and in August he became national champion in the long distance triathlon for the fourth time in Podersdorf am Neusiedlersee .

In September 2009 he won the Wachau Marathon for the third time .

In 2010 he started for the eleventh time at Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt . Here he was able to qualify for a starting place at the World Championships in Hawaii in 2002 and 2007 with his placements . Frühwirth starts for the URC Sparkasse Langenlois association .

The year 2017 was marked by injuries - he suffered a fracture of the femur in a fall at the Ironman in Klagenfurt at the beginning of July and a broken finger in August.

Private

Alexander Frühwirth took over his parents' farm at the age of 20 and has been an organic farmer in the Waldviertel ever since . He lives with his wife and two children in Kirchberg an der Wild .
