Bethlehemacker is a common quarter in the VI Bümpliz-Oberbottigen district and the statistical district 32 Bethlehem in the city ​​of Bern . Adjacent common quarters are Ackerli , Holenacker , Eichholz , Old Bethlehem and Blumenfeld . In the west it borders on the Great Bremgarten Forest .

In 2019, the resident population was 2,209, of which 1,474 were Swiss and 735 were foreigners.

history

The Bethlehemacker I settlement was built between 1943 and 1947 in five stages and was primarily intended for residents with low incomes. Architects in particular were Hans and Gret Reinhard . A school and a church were built for this purpose. The construction time was short, the financial and technical means were limited. Significant parts of the settlement are today in the building inventory of the city of Bern as worthy of protection and thus classified as cantonal objects (K objects).

The Bethlehemacker II settlement was planned as a large development from 1966 and built between 1968 and 1974. This includes five high-rise buildings and comprises 872 new apartments. A kindergarten, a business center and a garage were also built. Row houses in settlement I were torn down for construction.

Culture, education and commerce

The Bethlehemacker school complex consists of an upper level building, a gym building and five school pavilions. The oldest parts of the facility are almost 70 years old. For a replacement new building, 63.6 million francs have been spoken. The school pavilions and the gym building are to be renovated.

The Domicil Bethlehemacker as a competence center for dementia offers 73 care and nursing places in two-bed rooms. These can be used for day and / or night stays and thus also temporarily relieve caring relatives. The Reformed Church Community of Bethlehem maintains a church and a community center in Bethlehemacker.

A Coop shopping center with a hardware store, grocery department, restaurant, electronics and furniture store is used for supply and meeting people. A few shops and businesses can be found along Eymattstrasse.

The tram line 8 and the post bus line 101 connecting Bethlehem field with the center. The bus 27 operates tangentially between Niederwangen -Bahnhof and Weyermannshaus bath. The Autobahn 1 can be reached quickly via the Bern-Bethlehem exit.
