The Untermatt is a Usual quarters in the district VI bümpliz-oberbottigen and the Statistical District 32 Bethlehem in the city of Bern . Adjacent common quarters are Stöckacker , Schwabgut , Blumenfeld , Old Bethlehem and Weyermannshaus from District III. In the north it borders on the Great Bremgarten Forest .
In 2019 the resident population was 1970 people, 778 of them Swiss and 1192 foreigners.
Structure and housing development
The residential development is in the west of the quarter, with a commercial area in the center. The house stock consists mainly of older terraced houses.
The planning of a new large-scale development Weyermannshaus West (800 to 1000 apartments) is actually on Untermatt west of the Bad. As the Berner Zeitung writes, the area is not an idyll today. Businesses, workshops and parking lots are arranged in an uncoordinated manner. The commercial area is to be transformed into a dense, urban urban area with a high proportion of residential areas. The planned area should also remain an industrial park. The project is criticized by the neighborhood association. 70% of the living space is geared towards high earners, which contradicts the needs. Only around a third of the apartments are said to be inexpensive.
Culture, education and sport
The Weyermannshaus swimming pool ( Weyerli in Bernese ) is the largest outdoor swimming pool in Switzerland in terms of the 16,000 square meter water area of the main pool and the largest in Western Europe in terms of its volume of 25,000 cubic meters . There is also an indoor swimming pool , a restaurant and an ice rink .
In the swimming pool there is a stone at the location of the “geographical focus” of the municipality of Bern, which was set on June 25, 1994 and commemorates the 75-year incorporation of Bümpliz.
The Untermatt meeting point is a meeting place in the quarter. He offers advice, room rental, children's club, play groups, language courses, task assistance, courses, a writing room and catering services. As a project of the Vereinigung Berner Gemeinwesenarbeit (VBG) and the City of Bern, Futurina supports children (aged four and over) in the Untermatt, Stöckacker and Schwabgut quarters through events and networking with other offers (collaboration between families, schools and various organizations in the neighborhood).
