Bettina Hoy (* 7. November 1962 in Rheine as Bettina Over Esch ) is a German eventer .

Life

The trained horse manager lived in England for twelve years . Together with her then husband, the Australian eventing rider Andrew Hoy , she ran Gatcombe Park , the private country estate of the British Princess Anne . In February 2009 they left the facility and moved to Warendorf .

After Andrew Hoy returned to Great Britain, Bettina Hoy continues to live in Warendorf- Hoetmar . In late November 2011, she announced her split from Andrew Hoy.

Athletic career

Hoy won bronze with the team at the 1984 Olympic Games in what was then called the Military event, and in 1994 he won bronze at the World Team Championship. Three years later she became European champion and won gold medals at the German championships in 2002 and 2004, and bronze in 1983 and 1995. In 2005 she won her first four-star eventing test with her successful horse Ringwood Cockatoo , the CCI Luhmühlen .

Hoy became a tragic figure at the 2004 Olympic Games . She completed the eventing competition, in which the rating of the ride was counted for the team competition as well as for the individual, after the initial rating as the best. However, she accidentally crossed the starting line during a short warm-up lap, earning her 12 penalty points for timeout. Thus Hoy fell back to ninth place in the individual competition, in the team competition the German team was downgraded to fourth place due to the added individual results (→ Olympic Equestrian Games 2004 in eventing ). In addition, her horse tested positive. The doping allegation was dropped because the association doctors were involved in the medication.

At the World Equestrian Games in 2006 , Bettina Hoy was again a member of the German team, which this time prevailed against the competition. She won gold on the team. With 9.00 points in the final jumping, she was denied the individual medal after places 1 (after the dressage) and 2 (after the cross-country ride). She finished the competition in sixth.

She could not take part in the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong because her horse Ringwood Cockatoo was injured shortly before. Ringwood Cockatoo was retired from the sport in October 2009 after Bettina Hoy had won the CCI 4 * Pau together with him in autumn 2008 and had finished second in the CCI 4 * Lexington in April 2009 .

In the following years, Bettina Hoy built up horses again for the great tournament sport. With Lanfranco she was third in the CCIO 3 * Blenheim in 2011 and third in the CICO 3 * Houghton Hall in 2013. Due to a divorce agreement, she had to take over from Andrew Hoy at Lanfranco in early 2014.

She also worked her way up to 3 * level with the designer and Seigneur Medicott . At the European Championships in 2015 , she competed as a single rider in her first international championship in eight years and came 34th with Designer . The following year she just missed a medal at the German Championships (4th place with designer ). With Seigneur Medicott , Hoy won the CCI 3 * at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in September 2016.

In January 2017, Bettina Hoy took over the national coaching position for the Dutch eventing riders. In terms of sport, the year began with two top placements in Chatsworth, UK: With Designer , she came second in the special event of the Event Rider Masters (CIC 3 *), and she won the second division of the CIC 3 * with Seigneur Medicott . In Luhmühlen in June 2017 she won the German championship for the first time since 2006 (with Seigneur Medicott ). In the CCI 4 * , which was also held here , she was in the lead with the designer after dressage and after the terrain, and the final result was third place.

At the 2017 European Championships in Strzegom , Hoy and Seigneur Medicott were clearly in the lead after a dressage rate of 83.59 percent. In the field, however, she supported and thus became the strike result of the German team, which initially won the silver medal, but which was subsequently withdrawn from Julia Krajewski's horse due to illegal medication .

In March 2018, in favor of her coaching activities, Hoy decided not to participate in future championships for the German team. At the German championship 2018 she was third with Designer .
