Birch J. Bertelsmeier
Birke J. Bertelsmeier (born April 23, 1981 in Hilden ) is a German composer .
Life
Bertelsmeier received piano lessons from Barbara Szczepanska and composition lessons from David Graham . After graduating from high school, she studied piano with Pavel Gililov at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (diploma 2005) and composition with Wolfgang Rihm at the Karlsruhe University of Music (diploma 2008, concert exam 2011). In addition, she completed a master's degree in musicology in 2009. Her works are performed at international festivals and by various interpreters, for example the Arditti Quartet , the Quatuor Diotima, the Ensemble Modern , Ensemble ascolta, Ensemble recherche, Fukio Saxophone Quartet, Ensemble LUX, Marc Bouchkov, Erik Nielsen, Christoph Eschenbach , Tabea Zimmermann , Orchester Nationale de Lorraine, Bad Reichenhaller Philharmoniker, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 2017 her orchestral work was premiered for the Orkestra Sinfonikoa de Bilbao on the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika with choir and children's choir.
In 2014 two music theater works, “Querelle” by Jean Genet and “Nachtigall” by Oscar Wilde, and at the Salzburg Pocket Opera Festival 2017 the piece “Gib mir Dein” based on a story by Thomas Mann were premiered at the Deutsche Oper.
Bertelsmeier taught composition in youth seminars at the Beethoven House in Bonn and the NRW Music Council. From 2009 to 2011 she taught improvisation and composition at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media .
