The Cathay Pacific Gale Well Hong Kong Squash Open 2009 took place from October 14th to 18th, 2009 in Hong Kong . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2009/10 and was part of the Super Series category . It was endowed with $ 145,000. The women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2009/10 and belonged to the WSA Gold 60 category . The prize money was $ 74,000.

Defending champion in the men's race was Amr Shabana , who won the tournament three times in a row from 2006 to 2008. Shabana won the competition again this year when he defeated Grégory Gaultier in the final for the third time in a row after 2007 and 2008 . He benefited from Gaultier's injury-related task with a score of 11: 9, 9:11, 11: 3 and 5: 2 for Shabana. Nicol David won the women's title for the fourth time in a row. She defeated Omneya Abdel Kawy 11: 4, 11: 7 and 11: 7 in the final and won her 41st career title.

The fields of participation in the men's and women's competition consisted of 32 players each, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The best 16 players were each seeded. Per Wildcard received Dick Lau and Joey Chan a starting place in the respective main field.
