The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Squash Open 2008 found 17 to 23 November, 2008 Hong Kong instead. The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2008/09 and was part of the Super Series category . It was endowed with $ 145,000. The women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2008/09 and belonged to the WSA Platinum category . The prize money was $ 104,000.

Defending champion in the men's category was Amr Shabana , who also won the tournament for the third time this year. As in the previous year, he met Grégory Gaultier in the final , whom he defeated 11: 7, 13:15, 8:11, 11: 2 and 11: 3. With his third title win, he drew level with the previous record winner Peter Nicol , who won the tournament in 1999, 2000 and 2002. For the third time in a row Nicol David won the women's competition. She defeated Rachael Grinham in the final with 14:12, 11:13, 11: 8 and 11: 8 and won her 34th career title.

The fields of participation in the men's and women's competition consisted of 32 players each, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The best 16 players were each seeded. Per Wildcard received Dick Lau and Christina Mak a starting place in the respective main field.
