The Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Open 2016 took place from 23 to 28 August 2016 in Hong Kong instead. The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2016/17 and belonged to the PSA World Series category . The women's squash tournament was part of the women's PSA World Tour 2016/17 and also belonged to the PSA World Series category .

The defending champions were Mohamed Elshorbagy , who defeated Cameron Pilley 3-0 in the final, and Nicol David , who beat Laura Massaro in three sets in the final last year and won the tournament for the tenth time in a row. Ramy Ashour won the men's competition this year after beating Karim Abdel Gawad in the final . In the women's final , Nouran Gohar prevailed over Amanda Sobhy in four sets.

The fields of participants in the men's and women's competitions each consisted of 32 players, eight of which were starting places for qualifiers. Per Wildcard received Yip Tsz-Fung in the men's and Ho Tze-Lok in the women each a spot in the main draw.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize pool is $ 150,000 for men and $ 115,000 for women.
