Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Open 2001

The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Open in 2001 were from 21 to 26 August 2001 Hong Kong instead. The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2001/02 and was part of the Super Series category . It was endowed with $ 100,000. The women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2001/02 and belonged to the WSA Gold 50 category . The prize money was $ 63,000. While the men’s last competition took place the year before, the last time the women’s competition was held in 1994, when Michelle Martin won the title.

Defending champion was Peter Nicol , who failed in the first round at the later finalist Thierry Lincou with 0: 3. Lincou met David Palmer in the final , who won the game 15:13, 15: 6 and 15: 9. In the women’s match between the two top seeded players, number one seeded Leilani Joyce beat Carol Owens 9: 7, 9: 6 and 9: 0.

The fields of participation in the men's and women's competition consisted of 32 players each, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The best 16 players were each seeded. Due to short-term cancellations by seeded players, the seedings were adjusted, but the draw remained unaffected. Wildcards were not given.
