The 2015/16 season was the ninth season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey . The Les Canadiennes de Montréal won the regular season of the CWHL, while the Calgary Inferno won the Clarkson Cup for the first time in club history .

CWHL Draft

On August 23, 2015, the CWHL carried out a draft for players for the sixth time . The draft was carried out in Mississauga . In the first place, Sarah Edney was selected by the Brampton Thunder . In total, the 5 teams secured the rights to 54 players in 12 rounds.

The second All-Star Game of the NWHL took place on January 23, 2016 at the Air Canada Center , the home ground of the Toronto Maple Leafs , in Toronto . The encounter was completed over three thirds of 20 minutes. Some of the teams were put together based on a fantasy draft by the players Natalie Spooner and Julie Chu , the other players per team were decided by lot.

The following players were selected for the respective teams:

Including the captains, each team consisted of 17 players. The Team Black defeated the Team White with 5: 1 (2: 0, 2: 1, 1: 0) in front of over 5,000 spectators. As most valuable player was Marie-Philip Poulin excellent.

The 2016 Clarkson Cup was the seventh edition of the competition of the same name , in which four representatives of the Canadian Women's Hockey League participated. This year, the competition was not held as a final tournament at one location, but in play-off mode at different venues. The finale was on March 13, 2016 Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa in the province of Ontario played.

The Calgary Inferno won the first Clarkson Cup in their club history by beating Les Canadiennes de Montréal 8-3 .

In contrast to the previous year, the four participants in the play-offs did not play the knockout round ( best-of-three ) on the same weekend as the final, but on match dates before. The final was decided in a single game.
