The 2016/17 season was the tenth season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey . The Calgary Inferno won the regular season of the CWHL, while Les Canadiennes de Montréal won the Clarkson Cup for the fourth time in the club's history .

CWHL Draft

On August 21, 2016, the CWHL carried out a draft for female players. The draft was carried out in Toronto . In the first place, Kayla Tutino was selected by the Boston Blades . In total, the five teams secured the rights to 66 players in 16 rounds.

The third All-Star Game of the NWHL took place on February 12, 2017 at the Air Canada Center , the home ground of the Toronto Maple Leafs , in Toronto . The encounter was completed over three thirds of 20 minutes. Some of the teams were put together based on a fantasy draft by the players Carlee Campbell ( Team White ) as well as Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson ( Team Blue ), the other players per team were decided by lot.

Including the captains, each team consisted of 17 players. The Team White defeated the Team Blue 9: 5 (3: 0, 1: 2, 5: 3) before more than 8,000 spectators.

The Clarkson Cup 2017 was the eighth edition of the competition of the same name , in which four representatives of the Canadian Women's Hockey League participated. The competition was held in play-off mode at different venues. The finale was on March 5, 2017 Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa in the province of Ontario played.

The Les Canadiennes de Montréal won the fourth Clarkson Cup in their club history with an 8-3 victory over last year's winner Calgary Inferno .

mode

The four participants in the play-offs did not play the knockout round ( best-of-three ) on the same weekend as the final, but on match dates before. The final was decided in a single game.
