The statistical district Coschütz / Gittersee is located in the south of Dresden on a terrace-like elevation of the northern foothills of the Erzgebirge foothills on and on the eastern flank of the Plauen reason . It consists of the two districts of Gittersee and Coschütz and belongs to the district of Plauen .

Over a large area, it has the character of a district on the outskirts with loose buildings and preserved village centers, but is only a few kilometers away from downtown Dresden. Coal and uranium were mined in tunnels under Coschütz and Gittersee. The Coschütz / Gittersee industrial park emerged from a uranium ore processing plant operated by Wismut . The Windbergbahn , which is considered the oldest mountain railway in Germany, runs partly in the statistical district .

location

The statistical district Coschütz / Gittersee is located between Kleinpestitz / Mockritz in the east, Plauen and Naußlitz in the north, the Freital districts of Birkigt in the west and Kleinnaundorf in the south and the Bannewitz district of Cunnersdorf in the southeast.

The statistical district consists of Coschütz , which was incorporated into Dresden in 1921, and the Gittersee in the southwest , which was incorporated in 1945 . It is divided into the following three statistical districts:

• 851 Coschütz-Ost
• 852 Coschütz-West
• 853 Gittersee

economy

Shortly after the Second World War , the exploration and exploitation of the uranium deposits began . After the political change in 1991, however, the serious ecological effects of the mining became clear and around 45 million euros were invested to revitalize the site. Today the Coschütz / Gittersee industrial park is located there .

traffic

Coschütz is named for the Coschützer tunnel of the federal motorway 17 , which crosses under the district in an east-west direction.

The most important street is the Karlsruher Straße, which connects Coschütz and Gittersee in a course roughly from northeast to southwest. Stuttgarter Straße connects both parts of the city to the east to the Dresden-Südvorstadt motorway junction.

The Heidenschanze is the connection from Coschütz to the Plauenschen Grund. In Westendring, tram line 3 overcomes the difference in altitude between Coschütz and Plauen .

In 2013, a redesign of the bus routes in these districts was presented, which was discussed controversially, especially in Kleinnaundorf . Due to the lack of approval from the neighboring town of Freital , whose bus network is also affected, the planned implementation date of August 23, 2013 was initially not met. The newly created line 366 has been operating since February 16, 2014 and lines 66 and B were merged and line 71 was canceled.
