The Crusaders (dt. The crusaders ; formerly Canterbury Crusaders called) are a rugby union -Mannschaft in the New Zealand city of Christchurch . The team plays in the international super rugby league. She represents the regional associations Buller RFU , Canterbury RFU , Mid Canterbury RFU , South Canterbury RFU , Tasman RU and West Coast RFU . The catchment area of the franchise thus includes the northern and central part of the South Island . The home games are played in the Rugby League Park . Team colors are red and black.
history
The team formed in 1996 only reached twelfth and last place in the then Super 12 in its first season. After that, however, it was able to improve significantly and established itself as the strongest New Zealand team.
So far, the Crusaders have won the championship ten times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2017, 2018, 2019). They were defeated four times in the final (2003, 2004, 2011, 2014). In 2002 the Crusaders had a perfect season ; they remained unbeaten in all preliminary round matches, in the semi-finals and in the final.
