Daşkəsən (also Dashkasan ) is a rayon in western Azerbaijan . The capital of the district is the city of Daşkəsən .

The rayon has an area of ​​1047 km² and is 1200 to 2000 m above sea level in the Lesser Caucasus . The Gushgara River flows through the area.

population

The district had 32,800 inhabitants in 2009. 99.5% of the population are Azerbaijanis , 0.3% Russians . 99.8% of the population are Shiite Muslims.

Economy and Transport

The region is dominated by agriculture. There are cereals and potatoes grown and operated livestock. Mining is also carried out. There are deposits of iron ore , cobalt and copper ore . Moreover marble mined.

There is a railway connection between the nearby town of Gəncə and the village of Qushchu in Daşkəsən Rayon. Ore is mainly transported by rail. A bus line also connects the cities of Daşkəsən and Gəncə.

Attractions

The Targmantschaz Monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church is located in the village of Gushdschu near Daşkəsən . There is an ancient burial ground near Bayan, and several ancient towers near Amiravar. In the vicinity of Gabagtepe and Destefur there are several temples from the time of the state of Albania .
