David Nilsson (born April 16, 1987 ) is a Swedish long-distance runner .

Career

David Nilsson grew up in Kalmar, Sweden , and comes from a family of athletes. Both the parents Carl-Gustaf and Katarina, as well as the siblings Marcus (* 1991, decathlete ), Ida (* 1981) and Johanna (1983-2013) are and were nationally and internationally successful athletes from medium-distance runs to ultra marathons .

At the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zurich ( CHE ), he started the marathon, but could not finish the race. A year later at the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing ( CHN ), he was able to leave six runners behind in the marathon and finished the competition in 36th place with a time of 2:31:24 h. He ran the half marathon at the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam ( NLD ) in a time of 1:05:16 h, which meant 23rd place. At the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London ( GBR ), he finished 52nd with a time of 2:22:53 h.

He achieved his best placement in international championships at the 2015 European Cross Country Championships in Hyères ( FRA ) with tenth place in the individual ranking. However, he was unable to repeat this success the following year because he had to give up during the race at the 2016 European Cross Country Championships in Domus de Maria ( ITA ). At the 2017 European Cross Country Championships in Šamorín ( SVK ), he finished in 58th place.

David Nilsson achieved top placings at the Barcelona Half Marathon ( ESP ) 2011 (1:05:56 h, 8th place), over 10,000 m at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan ( RUS ) (30: 46.76 min, 12th place), at the Vancouver Marathon ( CAN ) 2014 (2:27:46 h, 3rd place) and at the Venloop Half Marathon in Venlo (NLD) 2015 (1:04:11 h, 12th place). He ran his current best marathon time of 2:15:40 h at the Hamburg Marathon 2017, with which he was able to achieve eighth place. Several participations in the Stockholm Marathon (SWE) in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 as well as in the Grand 10 Berlin (now "The Great 10k Berlin") in 2013 and 2017 brought him further top placements.

At the Ageo half marathon in Japan , which has a unique range of finisher performance every year, David Nilsson improved his half marathon best time to date in November 2018 in fifth place (1:03:34 h, March 26, 2017, Venlo ( NLD)) to 1:02:09 h, which meant a new Swedish national record. Six days later, David Nilsson won the Heisei Kokusai University Time Trials over 10,000 m in 29: 33.54 min in Saitama (JPN). Another week later, in December 2018, at the 43rd Kumamoto Kosa 10-Mile Race in Kosa , Kumamoto Prefecture (JPN), he set the next Swedish record in 22nd place, by taking it from 48:34 minutes to 47 over 10 miles : 10 min improved. Another week later at the 2018 European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg (NLD), he got out on December 9th during the competition.
