David Ospina Ramírez (born August 31, 1988 in Medellín ) is a Colombian football goalkeeper who has been under contract with SSC Napoli since 2018 .

Club career

Atlético Nacional

At the age of 17, Ospina began his career in the youth of Atlético Nacional in Medellín , the second largest city in Colombia and at the same time Ospina's birthplace. In 2005 Ospina made her breakthrough into the professional team. In 2006 he prevailed as the first goalkeeper, a year later he won the opening tournament and the final tournament of the 2007 championship in Colombia. In Primera A , at 18, he was the youngest player in history to win both titles.

OGC Nice

For the 2008/09 season Ospina moved to the French Ligue 1 to OGC Nice after the Boca Juniors had shown interest. The transfer fee for the change was estimated to be around two million euros.

Ospina played his first league game for OGC Nice on October 18, 2008 against AS Monaco and initially played as a goalkeeper, replacing his predecessor Hugo Lloris . Later, however, Nice's coach Frederic Antonetti decided to give preference to the much more experienced Lionel Letizi , as he still saw development potential at Ospina. Since the 2009/10 season , Ospina was again the first goalkeeper at OGC Nice.

Arsenal FC

For the 2014/15 season Ospina moved to London for Arsenal FC in the English Premier League . There he made his debut on September 23, 2014 in a 2-1 home defeat in the League Cup against Southampton FC . A week later he was substituted on in the Champions League against Galatasaray Istanbul after his goalkeeper colleague Wojciech Szczęsny was sent off. After the turn of the year, Ospina took on the role of the new “number 1” at Arsenal. He had previously contributed little to winning the FA Cup : his only minutes he played in the third main round against Hull City (2-0); in the 4-0 final against Aston Villa Szczęsny had again stood between the posts.

For the 2015/16 season , the newly signed Czech Petr Čech became the new goalkeeper at Arsenal FC, displacing Ospina back on the bench. He only made four league games that season, plus three appearances in the Champions League and four more in the 2015/16 FA Cup . In his last season for Arsenal, he made most of his appearances - ten - in the UEFA Europa League, but hardly appeared in the league. In the first game of the 2018/19 Premier League season , he was not even in the squad behind regular goalkeeper Petr Čech and newcomer Bernd Leno .

SSC Naples

In August 2018, Ospina signed a contract with the Italian first division club SSC Napoli .

Ospina was in the squad for the Copa America 2011 , but suffered a facial injury as part of the preparation after a collision with Hugo Rodallega and had to leave due to injury. For him, Neco Martínez played in the competition as a regular goalkeeper.
