David Gillespie Weir (born May 10, 1970 in Falkirk ) is a former Scottish football player and current coach .

Player career

The central defender began his football career in the youth of the Celtic Boys Club. In 1992 he moved to the top club in his hometown, FC Falkirk . In 1996 Heart of Midlothian continued within Scotland . From January 1999 Weir played at Everton in the English Premier League. During the winter break of the 2006/2007 season he was signed by the Glasgow Rangers , with whom he was Scottish champions in 2008/09 and 2009/10 .

Coaching career

On June 10, 2013 David Weir took over the coaching position at the English third division club Sheffield United . After a false start in Football League One 2013-14 , Weir was dismissed after only four months in office.
