DMAX is a private television broadcaster that primarily broadcasts reports , documentaries, real-life programs and lifestyle magazines aimed at male viewers . The transmitter is a full program approved and must therefore Monday to Friday at 23:10 am and 0:10 the two-minute newscast DMAX news broadcast.

history

DMAX is the successor to the television broadcaster XXP , which in January 2006 was 98% taken over by the US media group Discovery Inc. The remaining two percent remained with the former main shareholders dctp and Spiegel TV . On September 1, 2006, XXP was then merged into the new channel DMAX. In 2007 Spiegel TV GmbH and Alexander Kluge's DCTP Entwicklungsgesellschaft für TV-Programm sold their remaining shares of 1% each to Discovery Content Verwaltungs GmbH, so that the American Discovery Channel has now completely taken over the station DMAX. The station name DMAX is the abbreviation of the original station name Discovery MAX.

Since January 8, 2008, an English-language version of DMAX has been marketed in the pay-TV packages of Sky Digital and Virgin Media in Great Britain and Ireland . DMAX +1 , DMAX +1.5 and DMAX +2 were created promptly , which broadcast the main program with a time delay. Since February 2010, the station can no longer be received via MonA TV . In contrast to the German version of DMAX, the English-language channel is aimed at a female target group.

DMAX has been broadcasting in a new design since February 29, 2012. You can now see a DMAX-3D logo at the beginning and at the end of the trailers. Since May 1, 2012, DMAX HD has been broadcast via SES Astra's HD + basic encrypted platform , but it was only broadcast in native HD on August 1, 2012 . Since January 15, 2013, DMAX HD has also been broadcasting in the modernized Unitymedia networks .

Since October 1, 2014, the station has had its own Austrian branch under the name DMAX Austria . A separate advertising window for Austria has been broadcast on this channel since October 25, 2014. Goldbach Media Austria acts as the advertising marketer . Otherwise, the program does not differ from the German one, programs produced especially for Austria are planned for the future.

International

With the success of DMAX in Germany, a separate channel was launched on November 22, 2007 for the UK and Irish markets . DMAX went on air in Italy on December 12, 2011 and is now the ninth most watched channel in the country. In the Asia-Pacific market, DMAX launched on July 7, 2014, replacing Discovery Turbo (Asia) . In Spain , DMAX was launched on January 12, 2012 as Discovery MAX and renamed in September 2016.

The station describes itself as the "Factual ( facts ) entertainment channel for men", in Germany as the "first factual entertainment channel for men on German free TV" with the slogan : "Television for the greatest people in the world: men" . In his program he shows documentaries, real-life formats and lifestyle magazines that are specially tailored to a male audience. The themes of adventure and discovery, engine and technology, technology, dangerous jobs and travel should be in the foreground.

The station achieved a certain level of awareness through its own production of the docu-soap Die Ludolfs - 4 Brüder auf'm Schrottplatz (2006–2010) with a market share of 1.1% of the total audience. The internationally successful Top Gear auto show has also been running on DMAX since May 16, 2011 .

Print edition

In order to expand and position the DMAX brand, the Munich broadcaster published DMAX magazine from April 24, 2013 . The magazine was published by WEKA Media Publishing GmbH with a monthly circulation of 100,000 . The spectrum of topics ranged from adventure, lifestyle and technology to extraordinary stories and insider tips. The main target group were men between 18 and 49 years of age. The magazine was temporarily discontinued with issue 7/2015.

DMAX online shop

The television broadcaster has been running an online mail order business since June 17, 2013 under the name DMAX Shop . The range includes u. a. Products from the outdoor, home and motor sectors. DMAX fan articles are also available.
