The Eich is a temporarily secured nature reserve in the small town of Visselhövede in Lower Saxony in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 316 is about 84  hectares . It includes part of the 2007 designated FFH area "Lehrde und Eich". In the east it borders on the nature reserve " Lehrdetal ", in the south-west on the landscape protection area "Eich bei Stellichte" in the district of Heidekreis . The nature reserve was designated as of June 16, 2017. On April 19, 2018, the Nature Conservation Ordinance was declared ineffective due to an incorrect announcement. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Visselhövede in the west of the Lüneburg Heath . It places the part of the "Eich" forest area in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district under protection. The forest area stagnates on a geest slope . It is characterized as a grove beech forest in which coniferous forest stands are interspersed. In the southwest of the area there is a small moor lying in a depression , which is characterized as a transitional and vibrating lawn moor . The forest area is one of the ten largest occurrences of grove beech forest in the Lüneburg Heath. A section in the north-east of the forest is excluded from the scope of the Nature Conservation Ordinance. Here is the burial site of the von Kettenburg family who used to live on the nearby Gut Kettenburg .

The forest area has developed into a valuable habitat through natural management. As a near-natural beech forest, it has a high proportion of old wood with cave trees, clearings and diverse forest fringes. In the forest area are with greater mouse-eared , Bechstein's Bat , Pipistrelle , Common Pipistrelle , Serotine and Big Noctule different species of bats at home. The forest area is also a feeding habitat for the black stork .

The nature reserve borders in the north-west on the county road 244, to which further forest areas or agricultural areas are connected in places . To the east there are forest areas in the lowlands of the Lehrde and further beech forests of the Eich in the area of the Heidekreis district to the southwest . The coniferous forest areas in the nature reserve are to be converted into local deciduous forests.
