Each team plays six games during the tournament. As a rule, two games are played between two teams within two or three days in one country. All games are recorded in a table.
According to the IIHF world rankings , the 13 nations are divided into three pools. The first four teams form pool A, the next six teams form pool B and the last three teams form pool C. All twelve teams in turn are divided into two groups A and B. Two A-pool teams and one C-pool team of group A play against three B-pool teams of group A. Two pool-A-teams and one pool-C-team of group B play against the other three Group B pool B teams.
Due to Austria's relegation to Division IA, France took over Austria's two games on the third day of the game, as the Division IA World Cup was taking place at the same time .
The game is played in a three-point system, i.e. each team receives three points for a win, two points for an overtime win and one point for a defeat after extra time. Each team plays six games per season.
