European Cup Winners' Cup (handball) 1977/78

The 1977/78 European Cup Winners' Cup was the third edition of the competition for European handball cup winners . The 23 participating teams qualified in their home countries through the national cup competition for the European Cup organized by the International Handball Federation (IHF) . In the final on May 4, 1978, VfL Gummersbach prevailed against the Yugoslav representative RK Železničar Niš with 15:13.

Quarter finals

The first leg of the German-German duel was won by ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) on February 21, 1978 at home with 17:13 (9: 7). The second leg in the Dortmund Westfalenhalle , which was sold out with 13,000 spectators, was victorious by VfL Gummersbach on March 3, 1978 with 15:10 (8: 6) and thus reached the semi-finals.
