Naming

The Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium in Planegg was named after the biochemist and Nobel Prize winner Feodor Lynen . Initially the name Würmtal-Gymnasium was mentioned, but it was preferred to name it after a person rooted in the region. Thereupon two important Planegger personalities crystallized, on the one hand Feodor Lynen, who worked for a long time at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and lived in Planegg, on the other hand the comedian Karl Valentin , who lived and is buried in Planegg. In 1980, an agreement was reached on Feodor Lynen, who had died a year earlier. The Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium was finally inaugurated on July 6, 1981.

history

In the 1970s, the high schools in the surrounding areas, such as Graefelfing and Gauting , reached their capacity limits, which is why an additional secondary educational institution was to be built in the Würmtal . Parents campaigned for this as early as autumn 1972 when the “Friends of secondary schools Planegg-Krailling” was founded. Five years later, in September 1977, the Ministry of Culture approved the first day of school in the building of the Krailling primary and secondary school on the initiative of the Friends' Association. Construction began on the school building in Planegg in 1979. In 1980 the school was named after the biochemist Feodor Lynen. In the same year the new building was ready to move into. The first construction phase was completed and inaugurated in 1981, and the topping-out ceremony for the second construction phase was celebrated a year later . In 1984 the extension was inaugurated and two years later the first Abitur was completed. The building complex underwent various extensions in the 1990s and 2000s, such as B. an extension on the north side of the building and the so-called L-building with copper house. In addition, the school building was equipped with a solar system in 1995 , which was expanded in 2003 and 2006.

architecture

main building

The school building was planned and built in 1980 under the planning of the Heilmann & Kath architectural office and the then Mayor of Neuried, Ladislaus Wolowicz. The building falls under the architectural style of minimalism , which provides for a simple design language and the absence of abstract decorative elements. The construction was financed by the "Zweckverband Staatliches Gymnasium im Würmtal", which is made up of the association members Neuried , Planegg , Krailling and the district of Munich .

Copper house
The copper house in 2010

The copper house was designed by the Rohling planning office from 2005 to 2008 . His proposal emerged as the winner in an architecture competition. The building area of the copper house amounts to a total of 3,572 m². In addition to the concert building, the building complex also includes classrooms and the school canteen . In addition to some school performances (plays and concerts), various cultural events take place in the concert hall of the Kupferhaus. The costs for the entire building complex amounted to 8.3 million euros . The seating capacity in the concert hall is 450 seats.

Sports facilities

Two triple gyms and an artificial ice rink are available for physical education . A climbing tower from Naturfreunde Würmtal with a height of ten meters can be used for the optional sport climbing course . The skater facility at the grammar school, which opened in 2013, offers those interested a place for skateboarding . A tartan track and a soccer field are used both for school purposes and by local sports clubs.

extension

In order to meet the increased space requirements with the introduction of the G9 , a new building is planned to the north of the existing system. Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2020. According to current plans, the three-storey building should have no connection to the existing building and should primarily accommodate middle school classes . The administrative cost organization “Zweckverband Staatliches Gymnasium im Würmtal” assumes total costs of around ten million euros.

Reference high school of the Technical University of Munich

The FLG is one of 50 reference high schools of the TUM School of Education and is therefore the interface between academic teacher training and teaching practice. The training and further education measures of the subject teachers particularly concern the MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology).

Training directions

First and foremost, the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium is a science, technology and economics school. When choosing the scientific-technological branch, from the 8th grade onwards you have chemistry and more lessons in physics . If, on the other hand, you choose the economic branch, you have economics and law from the 8th grade and chemistry from the 9th grade. The choice of branch takes place in the 7th grade. The foreign language Spanish (starting late) can be chosen from the 10th grade and must be continued until the Abitur. In the 5th and 6th grades, the so-called natural science class is offered (NaWiKla) in order to motivate the students for scientific issues. These include, for example, excursions to the nearby Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried . In addition to the science class, there is the possibility of joining a music class in the 5th and 6th grade.

School life

Student Co-Administration (SMV)

The SMV consists of three students who are elected by the class representatives of all school classes at the beginning of each school year. At the FLG there has been an SMV almost continuously since it was founded. A so-called “Mini-SMV” has existed since 2014/15, which specifically represents the interests of the lower level. The SMV also includes the technical team. The SMV enriches school life by organizing lower school parties, ball game days or other activities such as fundraising campaigns or social projects such as World AIDS Day at the FLG.

School newspaper

The “Feo-Times” is the FLG's school newspaper , which is designed online in the form of a weblog . The students regularly write articles on current and internal school topics. It is possible to apply to work at the editorial office using an elective.

Publicity

From June to October 2015, the high school, like many other schools in the district , accommodated asylum seekers . In the course of this, one of the two triple gymnasiums was temporarily converted to accommodate a total of 200 refugees on a temporary basis. Most of the refugees came from Afghanistan and African countries such as Eritrea , Somalia , Mali , Nigeria and Senegal . On October 6, 2015, the emergency shelter was closed because the total number of refugees was falling and other accommodation options were available. Most of the 200 residents were relocated to Unterhaching in the air dome there.

School trips

Numerous school trips are held at the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium. Among other things, a one-week school camp is organized for all 5th grade students . A ski camp is offered for the 7th grade. In addition to the ski course, the one-week program includes lessons on avalanche and environmental studies. In addition, further school trips to certain elective subjects are offered.

Student exchanges

The school offers various exchange programs with different countries, whereby the European schools are located in the partner communities in Planegg. For the 8th and 9th grades there will be an exchange from France to the Collège les Buclos in Meylan . An exchange into English Didcot is carried out annually for the ninth and tenth grades. There is also an exchange with Strath Haven High School in Wallingford , Pennsylvania for interested 10th grade students . In addition, the FLG has been a participant in the Erasmus + School Education program ( Comenius program ) since 2012 , during which visits to various European partners are made at regular intervals.

Tutor program

In order to make it easier for younger pupils to enter school life, pupils in the 9th grade can apply for the position of tutors . In the first few months they support the "newcomers" and try to strengthen the class community with lots of games and several meetings or to help with problems among the students. They also accompany the assigned classes on hiking days and other school trips . From the 10th grade onwards, you can move up from a tutor to a “learning advisor”, who provides support in the afternoon care for homework. All learning advisors complete special in-school training twice a year.

Afternoon care

The afternoon care of the FLG offers working parents the opportunity to have their children looked after by appropriately trained learning advisors in the afternoon. This offer is only valid for lower school students. After class, the children are picked up in the classroom by their tutors and checked for attendance. Then the students and their learning advisors go to the gym or to the sports field, depending on the weather. There the children can do sports after a long day at school. Before the children do their homework in the afternoon, they go to the school canteen together. The afternoon care ends at 4 p.m.

Technical Equipment

The Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium has a high level of equipment: The entire main building has WiFi and the classic blackboard disappears in favor of interactive whiteboards . In almost every classroom, there are document cameras instead of conventional overhead projectors for projecting e.g. B. Student Results. It is also possible for learning groups, for several days a single hour or iPad to claim -Satz. The iPad classes, which are offered in every grade from the 8th grade, are a specialty. Each student has their own iPad, which to a certain extent replaces the classic exercise book .

School Medical Service (SSD)

At the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium school paramedics volunteer for their classmates. In the event of injuries or sudden illnesses, trained school paramedics are always on hand. The helpers all have at least one first aid course , some of them have been trained as paramedics . The SSD is supported by the Planegg / Krailling readiness of the Bavarian Red Cross . The number of members of the school medical service varies - depending on the school year - between 20 and 30 members who attend grades 10 to 12. Pupils from the ninth grade can join.

Elective classes

The elective courses offered by the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium include musical courses, for example the school choir and the school orchestra. There is also a wide range of sports activities such as ice hockey , basketball , tennis , sport climbing or triathlon . The Feo-Bees project , which includes the breeding and maintenance of several bee colonies , has existed since 2013 . The Feo honey produced can be purchased in the school building. There are also electives in politics and contemporary history as well as a reading club and a theater course.
