The postage mark Osing (from mhd. Asanc , entpr. Absengen, Abgesengtes) is a community-free plateau between four districts in the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim (until June 30, 1972, district of Uffenheim ) and the last brand cooperative in Germany. It was first mentioned on May 8, 1465 .

geography

The 2.74 km² large plateau has a height of mostly 370 to 380 meters above sea level . The highest point is the birch hill with a height of 396.7 meters, in the eastern part of the area. The Osingsee is centrally located, with the Osinghaus at the eastern end.

The surrounding villages are at altitudes between 327 and 336 meters. Krautostheim in the north at 327 m, Rüdisbronn in the east at 336 m, Humprechtsau in the south at 330 m and Herbolzheim in the west 335 m.

The area is elongated in a west-southwest-east-northeast direction, over 4.3 km long, with a width between 230 meters (western part) and 1060 meters (near the eastern end).

The south-western tip of the area with an area of 0.625 km² is known as Kleinosing and is also shown on maps as Kleinasang . State road 2256 from Herbolzheim to Humprechtsau runs through this area from west to east over a length of one kilometer . The remaining streets in Osing are district streets .

The main part of the Osing is divided into the corridors Westlicher Osing and Östlicher Osing, which are separated from each other by the Humprechtsauer Weg, which leads past the Osingsee to the east. Other place names are Stuck (in Kleinosing), Karl Steig , the goby , The Scots pine (in the Western Osing) When blade Bronnen , Lohe and Model field (in the Eastern Osing). administration

Since November 25, 1855, the Osing has been administered by a committee of eight people, two each from the four neighboring villages of Herbolzheim, Krautostheim, Humprechtsau and Rüdisbronn, known as the eighth administration . Before that there were 16 (four per village). The chairman of the committee is the Osing senior .

Responsibilities

Legal assignment

The use of the Osing is available to 162 lawyers from the city of Bad Windsheim ( Humprechtsau , Rüdisbronn ), the markets Sugenheim (Krautostheim) and Markt Nordheim (Herbolzheim) , who in turn are owners at all times.

The four villages were independent communities until 1972, with the exception of Herbolzheim, which was only incorporated into Markt Nordheim in 1976. The Osing is part of the Herbolzheim district , but does not belong to the Herbolzheim community, as it is a community-free area .

Agricultural historical position and field use

The Osing occupies a special position in many ways. With an area of 274 hectares, it not only reaches an unusual size among the remaining commons in Central Europe, with an arable share of 75% it also has a very unusual amount of usable area . Another peculiarity is that it belongs to four villages. The Osing is farmed jointly by the farmers who are entitled to use it from the neighboring villages, who raffle the farmland among themselves every ten years. The other uses - fruit tree yields , vineyards , carp pond ( Osingsee ) and hunting rights - are leased by the community of beneficiaries.

The competition raffle

For centuries, the Osing raffle has been held in all years that end with a 4. On the day of the raffle there is a small folk festival with snacks and brass music . The tickets are drawn by schoolchildren and depending on how good the ticket is, the amount of the tip that they receive will vary .

The Osing raffle is one of 21 customs that Bavaria has proposed for the German register of intangible cultural heritage and was included in 2016.
