Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys were a very successful German music group in the field of hit music in the 1950s . The ensemble also released some children's songs under the name Tante Fröhlich and the Hutzelmännchen .

history

Friedel Hensch (* July 7, 1906 in Landsberg an der Warthe ; † December 31, 1990 in Hamburg ), who had already enjoyed success as a singer before the Second World War and was engaged in Berlin by Erik Charell , among others , Werner Cyprys (* 19. April 1922 ; † July 30, 2000 ) and Karl Geithner (born October 11, 1922 in Chemnitz-Markersdorf ; † 1976 ) applied independently to a variety theater in Flensburg in 1945 . Because the stage director did not have a theater license from the Allied military government , the three formed their own band in October of the same year. On November 1, 1945, accompanied by their new member Heinz Bartels, they traveled to Hamburg, where they hoped for a permanent commitment. In January 1946 they appeared for the first time as Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys in the "Trichter" ballroom on the Reeperbahn . Guest appearances in numerous cities in West Germany followed . At the beginning of 1947 Bartels left the group to take up a position as Kapellmeister in Bremen . Friedel Hensch and Werner Cyprys married in Bielefeld at the end of 1947 . In 1948 Kurt Grysok (born October 5, 1922 in Hindenburg OS ) came across the band and became their fourth man.

During a performance in the summer of 1949 in Hannover was Kurt Richter , the head of the record company Polydor , attentive to the quartet. In the same year, the group's first record was released with the title Mit der Zeit du es, too : The Samba was the B-side of the hit Maria from Bahia , the German version of the world success Maria de Bahia by René Carol and Danielle Mac Ray Ventura , published. The next record, including Werner Cyprys' own composition Mein Kaugummi , sold more than satisfactorily. In 1950, a few singles appeared on which Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys can only be heard as a choir with recordings by the singer Heinz Woezel (1914–1981) and other performers. In the same year the ensemble appeared with two hits composed by Michael Jary in the film Girls with Relationships . This first of a total of 11 film appearances meant another career boost for the quartet. Under the name Tante Fröhlich and the Hutzelmännchen , the group recorded around 20 children's songs for Gnom, the children's series from the Polydor record company, during the same period.

The four musicians recorded their greatest success to date at the end of 1950 with the title Holdrio - dear echo . In the years that followed, the group kept releasing popular hits, which became their trademark alongside the modern, often slightly satirical songs. The title Heideröslein was in first place in the German charts for three months in the summer of 1954 . In 1955 the ensemble received a gold record for total sales of over three million records. This was followed by 15 tours through Germany and Europe as well as appearances in more than 60 television shows and at over 200 radio events . Other top 10 hits were Oh Jägersmann (1956) and Solang 'die Sterne glow'n (1957). By 1970 Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys had released around 15 long-playing records and almost 90 singles.

The band was successful in the 1950s with songs by well-known composers and lyricists such as Ernst Bader , Bruno Balz , Walter Brandin , Fini Busch , Kurt Feltz , Heino Gaze , Gerhard Jussenhoven , Kurt Schwabach , Günther Schwenn and Gerhard Winkler . In addition, Werner Cyprys continued to publish his own titles, who also made a name for himself as a composer and music producer for other interpreters in the 1950s .

In 1957 Kurt Grysok emigrated to Canada and was replaced by Hans-Joachim Kipka , who remained a member of the group until 1961. Since then, the ensemble has only performed as a trio. In 1961, the group called Colombino took part in the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest , which Lale Andersen won. In 1962 Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys landed their last hits with Mein Ideal , the answer to Charles Aznavours Du let you go , and Der Mond von Wanne-Eickel (Original: Un clair de lune à Maubeuge ). In 1963 Friedel Hensch and the Cyprys performed with the title Yes, at the Bossa Nova Ball at the German Schlagerfestspiele in Baden-Baden , taking the penultimate of 12 places. After their last contract with Polydor had expired in 1965, the three released their last records under the Telefunken label.

Friedel Hensch's gravestone

The group's last appearance together was in October 1970 on Wim Thoelke's television show Drei Mal Neun .

Friedel Hensch was buried in the New Niendorfer Friedhof in Hamburg.
