European Women's Football Championship 2013 / Netherlands

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article covers the Dutch national team at the 2013 European Women's Football Championship in Sweden . The Netherlands took part in the finals for the second time, but were eliminated after the preliminary round. When they first participated in 2009, they reached the semi-finals.

qualification

The Dutch women were drawn for the qualification in group 6 and met England and for the first time Croatia , Slovenia and Serbia . The Dutch started with a 6-0 win against Serbia and remained clean in the following four games, including a 0-0 win against England. They only conceded their first goal in the 3-1 win against Slovenia and then lost the following game in England with 0-1. Since the English women didn't lose a game, the English women qualified for the European Championship with one point ahead of the Dutch women. Second place was enough for the Dutch women to qualify directly, as they achieved the most points of all runners-up in the group. The best scorer in qualification was Manon Melis with 8 goals.
