Hagenbach is a town in the district of Germersheim in the southeast of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Hagenbach and is designated as a basic center according to state planning .

Hagenbach is located in the Upper Rhine Plain east of the Bienwald . The urban area extends about 3.5 km west of the Rhine - viewed downstream between Neuburg am Rhein in the south and the Wörth district of Maximiliansau in the northeast. In the southeast, the urban area extends in two places within the Daxlander Au polder to the banks of the Rhine; the area in between around the former Frohnau brickworks belongs to Neuburg am Rhein and is connected to the rest of the Neuburg district via the water surface of the Rhine. From the nature reserve Stixwörth in the border area to Neuburg towards the north, the Hagenbacher Altrhein , which forms a U-shaped loop near Hagenbach and through which the Heßbach flows , runs; to the east of it lies the nature reserve Goldgrund in the Wörther city area .

The area was already settled in Roman times. The " Hagenbach hoard ", which consists mainly of silver jewelry, contains the booty of a Germanic war campaign from the 3rd century, which is believed to have come from a Roman temple district in Aquitaine . The find is now kept in the Palatinate History Museum in Speyer .

The Burgundians followed, and in the 6th century the Franks . The oldest surviving mention of Hagenbach comes from a deed of donation from King Ludwig the German from 848. In 1281, the Roman-German King Rudolf von Habsburg granted Hagenbach city rights. Parts of the city wall are still preserved today.

Hagenbach was the leading place of the Büttelei Hagenbach . In the two divisions of the Lichtenberg rule , which took place around 1330 and 1335, half of the village of Hagenbach is mentioned as part of this rule . The local castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The Hagenbach pledge was only released again in 1544 under the successors of the Lichtenberg family, the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg . Crucifixion group Hagenbach

In the center there are well-kept half-timbered houses. The church of St. Michael from 1752 has a rich rococo interior . Behind the church you can still see a remnant of the old fortification and in the old cemetery the monument “Crucifixion Group” from 1835. The Lourdes grotto on the high bank is the destination of the faithful every year.

Near Hagenbach (at the intersection of the road to Kandel) are the remains of a Roman road , next to the sawmill six Roman Leugensteine were found, a reproduction is at the old location in the Bienwald, the original is in the Palatinate History Museum.

Several automotive suppliers have settled in the community in recent years. The largest employer is the Faurecia interior systems development center . Instrument panels and cockpits for the automotive industry are developed there. In 2003 the site had 550 employees. The factory is 18,000 m².
