history

The place was mentioned for the first time as a Gezt in 1231 , when it passed from royal possession at the Bratislava Castle into the hands of Šebeš from the noble family of the Counts of Svätý Jur and Pezinok . Other owners were the Gesztis (part of the 14th century), Poor Clares of Trnava (from 1553), Viktoria Folliot de Crenville (much later), the Esterházys (from 1805), the Čeklís-Bernolákovo manor (from 1817).

In 1786 Germans were settled here, but they soon emigrated or were assimilated by the Slovaks.

In 1970 the place still had 578 inhabitants, in 1980 only 538 inhabitants.
