history

Until the 19th century

"Euchendorf" was first mentioned in a letter dated March 24, 1075 from Pope Gregory VII . In it, the Pope confirmed to Bishop Altmann von Passau that three farmsteads and a church from Eichendorf had been donated to the St. Nikola monastery near Passau . The rest of the village remained in the possession of the bishops, whose property it had probably been since the 8th century.

Historical map from 1826

The district of Perbing was mentioned as Berhcbuobingon in a document from King Heinrich II of June 19, 1011 : Heinrich gave his chamberlain Odelgis a king's hoof for his unselfish services in this then still independent place.

In the 12th to 14th centuries a local nobility seems to have been resident. In the documents of the Aldersbach monastery in 1170 a Heinricus de Euchendorf is mentioned as a witness and in documents of the St. Nikola monastery from 1334 Karl von Euchendorf is mentioned. In 1350 Heinrich the Euchendorfer received a bonnet from the St. Nikola monastery in Leibrecht.

In 1264 Eichendorf was mentioned as "forum Eichendorf", - Markt Eichendorf - in a list of the goods and income of the Hochstift Passau . In 1358 Eichendorf already had the right to hold three annual markets and one weekly market, which includes a confirmation letter from Duke Albrecht .

On October 7, 1334, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian and his cousin Duke Heinrich von Niederbayern met in Eichendorf for a reconciliation talk. In the Landshut War of Succession , the place was badly affected. As compensation to the market citizens for the reconstruction, Duke Wilhelm IV promised to hold a fourth fair in 1512.

During the Thirty Years' War , Swedish troops burned the place down completely in 1639 and 1648 (with the exception of the church). The current political community was founded by the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818. In 1835, 1848 and 1850 further fires raged and destroyed entire districts. In 1896 Eichendorf was raised to a parish. Before that, the place belonged to the parish of Dornach as an exposition.

20th century

In 1915, with the opening of the Aufhausen – Kröhstorf railway line , the market was connected to the railway. The line was closed in 1971 and dismantled in 1973. Today the Vilstal cycle path runs here.

During the Second World War, Eichendorf was shot at and some districts were destroyed.

Incorporations

Today's community (market) Eichendorf was reorganized between 1972 and 1978. On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Dornach , Hartkirchen and Reichstorf were incorporated. On July 1, 1972, Adldorf , Aufhausen , Exing and Indersbach as well as parts of the dissolved communities of Kammern and Rengersdorf were added. The territorial reform was completed on May 1, 1978 with the incorporation of the districts of Brunnberg, Gneidingerhart, Hiemling, Unterfrauenholz, Wildeneck and Zeitlstadt from the former Ettling community .

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the market grew from 6207 to 6592 by 385 inhabitants or 6.2%. On December 31, 2001 Eichendorf had 6,690 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

Only a few houses from the 18th century survived the fires in the second quarter of the 19th century. The three-aisled late Gothic parish church of St. Martin was consecrated in 1466. It is characterized by the baroque and modernization in the middle of the 20th century. In the choir it has a four-diamond rib vault. The rococo altars date from the 18th century. The "Venus von Aufhausen" was recovered from an excavation in the Aufhausen district.
