After two seasons, the right-shooter moved to the 2nd German Bundesliga for Grefrather EC . After a year in North America, where he worked in the American Hockey League with the Binghamton Rangers and in the East Coast Hockey League with the Richmond Renegades played, he moved back to Europe, where he in the 1995/96 season short for ESC Moskitos Essen played and then played in the Czech Republic in Prague until the 1997/98 season . In 1997 he was hired as a free agent by the Washington Capitals. For the capitals, Benda was only nine times in the NHL on the ice (0 goals, 3 assists), most of the season he played for the Capitals farm team , the Portland Pirates , in the AHL.

After his engagement in the NHL, the globetrotter moved to Finland . After three successful years, the Edmonton Oilers signed him before the 2000/01 NHL season , but before the start of the season Benda received the club's release and moved to Russia to Ak Bars Kazan .
