KUNSTradln in Millstatt
KUNSTradln in Millstatt is an international annual art exhibition in Millstatt am See ( Carinthia ). It takes the form of various art stations all over Millstatt, which are connected by a cycling or hiking route.
Organization and concept
organization
KUNSTradln started in 2018, was repeated in 2019, and will take place regularly in the summer half-year (May to October) in the following years, not least thanks to a long-term subsidy from the European Union ( EAFRD , 2014-2027). The art event is also funded by the Austrian Federal Chancellery (Art and Culture Section), the Land Kärtnen (cultural department) and the City of Millstatt am See , as well as various private sponsors.
Due to the restrictions due to Covid-19 also in the cultural sector, the 3rd edition of the 2020 event could not start in May as usual. The exhibition program now starts on July 10, 2020 and lasts until mid-November 2020.
The initiator and curator of the program is Petra Weissenböck , director of “KUNSTradln Galerie und Café” in Millstatt, where the organizational hub of the entire KUNSTradln is also located. Organizational sponsor is the cultural association "KUNSTradln in Millstatt am See" (chairwoman since 2019 Anette Lang ).
concept
All of Millstatt as an international art space
The exhibition can be seen with stations at different locations in the community of Millstatt am See , which can be walked as a circular route by visitors interested in art or ridden by bike (hence the name "KUNSTradln"). Artists from Austria, Germany , Switzerland , Croatia , Poland , Greece , Sweden , Italy , Spain , Hungary , USA , South Korea , Lebanon and Guatemala were and will be combined in an exhibition concept.
This exhibition concept also combines various existing art and cultural institutions in Millstatt in a joint program. The main ones to be mentioned here are:
- the entire former Millstatt Abbey with its various current supporting organizations (Parish Millstatt, Austrian Federal Forests, etc.); as well as with different locations there, such as the collegiate church, cloister , Stiftsmuseum Millstatt , Stiftshöfe, Ordenshaus, Lindenhof etc. (integrated since 2018)
- ART SPACE in the Millstatt Abbey (integrated in 2018),
- the initiative "Art and Co. Millstatt" (involved since 2018),
- the arthouse cinema "Millino" (included 2018-2019)
- as well as the galleries (a) "Galerie Lindenhof " (integrated since 2018), (b) "KUNSTradln Galerie und Cafè" (integrated since 2019)
- various Millstatt-based artists with their studios (2018-2020)
In addition, the concept opens up a number of new and sometimes unusual places in Millstatt as a presentation option for modern art.
Low-threshold art education
In art museums , art exhibitions and art galleries, access to modern art offers is often characterized by the fact that only an audience that is already interested in and art-related can or wants to participate.
In the project "KUNSTradln in Millstatt" one is low-threshold access to art mediated by the following aspects:
- The accessibility is guaranteed over a long period (6 months 2018 & 2019, 4 months 2020 due to Corona).
- The visibility in a complex art space encompassing the entire city of Millstatt am See ensures the attention not only of the population, but also of the tourist guests.
- The invitation to participate, even for an art audience that has not been defined in advance, also includes people who happen to be passing by (including cyclists) who can and should come into contact with art in this way.
- The very name "KUNSTradln in Millstatt" itself signals that it is not about one of the usual channels of established access to modern art, but about new forms and approaches.
