The men's high jump at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 10 and 11, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

With gold and bronze, there were two medals in this competition for the high jumpers from the Federal Republic of Germany. Dietmar Mögenburg became European champion . He won ahead of the Pole Janusz Trzepizur . Bronze went to Gerd Nagel .

Record setting

European champion Dietmar Mögenburg equalized the championship record of 2.30 m in the final on September 11th. Germany BRBR Germany

Sorin Matei was not able to reach the final with 2.15 m

23 participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification height for direct entry into the final was 2.24 m. Since only two athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 2.21 m was enough for the final.
