Lisa Theresa Hauser (born December 16, 1993 in Kitzbühel ) is an Austrian biathlete who was active and successful in cross-country skiing at the beginning of her career .

Athletic career

Lisa Hauser lives in Reith and starts for SC Kitzbühel . She graduated from the Saalfelden ski school and is a member of the A-team of the Austrian Ski Association .

Beginnings in cross-country skiing (2008 to 2011)

Since December 2008, she has been active in international cross-country skiing races, primarily in Alpine Cup , junior and FIS races , without achieving outstanding results until her last race in 2011. For the 2009/10 season she moved up to the cross-country skiing C-team of the ÖSV . In 2010 and 2011 she took part in the Austrian championships and in 2011 in St. Jakob just missed a medal in the classic sprint as fourth. The highlight as a cross-country skier was her participation in the European Youth Olympic Festival 2011 in Liberec . Hauser was 43rd in the 7.5-kilometer classic, 20th in the classic sprint and 26th in the 5-kilometer freestyle .

Switch to biathlon and Olympic participation (2011 to 2015)

For the 2011/12 season Lisa Hauser switched to biathlon. She made her international debut at the junior races of the European Championships 2012 in Osrblie , where she was 18th in the sprint and 21st in the pursuit and just missed a medal with Christina Rieder , Alexander Jakob and Peter Brunner in fourth place in the mixed relay. This was followed by the Junior World Championships in 2012 in Kontiolahti , where Hauser was eleventh in the individual and 15th in the pursuit. In the sprint she previously won the bronze medal behind Hilde Fenne and Nija Dimitrowa , as well as with Christina Rieder and Julia Reisinger in the relay race. Towards the end of the season, she competed in her first IBU Cup races this winter in Altenberg . For the following season she was included in the ÖSV biathlon B squad. At the Austrian Biathlon Championships in 2012, Hauser won the relay title with Magdalena Millinger and Magdalena Fankhauser representing Tyrol .

Next winter she continued to take part in the IBU Cup 2012/13 . She also competed in her first World Cup race in winter 2012/13 when she was lined up for the relay race in Hochfilzen , Austria , together with Romana Schrempf , Iris Schwabl and Katharina Innerhofer . This was followed by further relay operations in the World Cup in Ruhpolding , Antholz and at the Biathlon World Championships 2013 in Nové Město na Moravě . In the title fights, the lapped Austrian relay took 19th place. They also won at the Junior World Championships in Obertilliach thanks to good shooting and running performance in the individual competition behind Laura Dahl Meier the silver medal in the sprint behind Laura Dahl and Meier Olga Podchufarova the bronze medal. In the pursuit she fell back to seventh place. With Christina Rieder and Fabienne Hartweger , she was eighth in the relay race. At the Austrian Biathlon Championships in 2013 she was runner- up with Magdalena Fankhauser and Susanna Kurzthaler behind the representative of Styria and won gold in the sprint and pursuit.

In the following season she started in both the IBU Cup 2013/14 and the Biathlon World Cup 2013/14 . In her first individual race in the World Cup, the sprint in Annecy - Le Grand-Bornand , she finished 33rd straight away in the points. In most of the other individual races she also received World Cup points. She took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , but the Austrian women's team remained without medals. Hauser also took part in the 2014 Junior Biathlon World Championships in Presque Isle and won the silver medal in the individual competition and the bronze medal in the women's relay.

From the 2014/15 season Lisa Hauser started exclusively in the World Cup and achieved points in almost every race. The basis for her results were primarily her fast and safe shooting positions, at that time she was not yet able to keep up with the world's best in terms of running. In March 2015 she took part in the World Championships in Kontiolahti , Finland .

First podium finishes in the World Cup (since 2015)

In January 2018 in Oberhof

In the winter of 2015/16 Lisa Hauser was able to significantly improve her performance. She placed in more than half of all individual races within the top 20 athletes, including two top 10 placements. She achieved the best result of the season and also her first podium in a World Cup race in the single mixed relay in Canmore , Canada , when she finished second with Simon Eder . At the end of the season she finished 15th in the overall World Cup.

In preparation for the next season , she trained in the "biathlon forge" together a. a. with Simon Eder , Julia Schwaiger and Dunja Zdouc , these athletes were looked after by Eder's father, Alfred Eder , and Sandra Flunger. One of the reasons for founding a training group that is independent of the ÖSV was the fact that a new coach, the Norwegian Vegard Bitnes, was hired in the summer before the home World Cup and the long-time coach of Hauser and several Austrian biathletes, Sandra Flunger, is no longer considered has been. In the first race of the season, the single-mixed relay in Östersund , Sweden , she again finished second with Simon Eder. By the turn of the year she achieved a top 10 position in more than half of all races. From January 2017, Lisa Hauser was plagued by illnesses, in the title fights in Hochfilzen she ran the worst races of the winter, the Austrian women's relay was disqualified by Julia Schwaiger after a mistake at the shooting range. A short time later she won her first World Cup race in Kontiolahti, Finland , in the single mixed relay she competed with Simon Eder again, but the Austrian team was able to prevail in this race against the competition and won the race ahead of Susan Dunklee and Lowell Bailey from the United States and Laura Dahlmeier and Roman Rees from Germany.

Hauser, who was reintegrated into the ÖSV team after the dissolution of the "biathlon forge" in 2018, confirmed her results in the following winters. Together with Simon Eder, she clinched her second World Cup victory in the single mixed relay in November 2017 and reached the podium in other competitions in this discipline. In individual races, she placed in the top ten several times; in the overall World Cup she was consistently the best Austrian with results between 15th and 30th place. In her second Olympic participation , Hauser missed top results with a 41st place in the individual and a 62nd place in the sprint (as well as 10th place in the mixed relay), while she reached the top ten several times at the 2019 and 2020 World Championships . Her best individual result was seventh place in the 2019 15-kilometer race, in which she was a good 20 seconds behind third-placed Justine Braisaz after a faultless competition .

Trivia

At the mass start in January 2017 in Oberhof , Lisa Hauser accidentally stepped her German competitor Vanessa Hinz on the stick during the ascent, whereupon Hinz lost her stick and had to cope with the rest of the climb with just one stick. Although it was a normal racing accident and Hauser was not to blame, she then passed one of her sticks on to Hinz. Hauser fell a short time later in the downhill and ended the race prematurely. For this way of acting, she was awarded the Fair Play Prize of German Sports 2017 by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS) .
