Matthew Conger (born October 11, 1978 in Plano , Texas ) is a New Zealand football referee .

Conger was born in the United States , where he started to earn some money as a referee at the age of 15. Around 2003 he moved from Athens , Georgia, to New Zealand.

Since the end of 2012, he has been leading international matches as a FIFA referee.

In 2017, Conger worked with his assistants Simon Lount and Tevita Makasini (Tonga) at the 2017 Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates . At the beginning of 2018, Conger and his assistants were nominated as one of 36 referee teams for the 2018 World Cup in Russia .

Conger works as a teacher in Palmerston North and has four children.
