Michael Hart (rower)

Michael "Mike" John Hart (born October 24, 1951 ) is a former British rower .

Michael Hart started out as a oarsman . At the European Rowing Championships in 1971 he was eleventh with the British four-man with helmsman . In 1972 he competed at the Olympic Games in Munich with David Maxwell and helmsman Alan Inns in a pair with helmsman and took eighth place.

In 1973 Hart switched to scull rowing and formed a double scull with Christopher Baillieu . Behind the boats from the GDR and the USSR, the two British took third place at the 1973 European Championships . At the rowing world championships in 1974 and 1975, the double sculls from the GDR and Norway won, the bronze medal went to Hart and Baillieu. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, too , the medals went to the three dominant double sculls: the Norwegians won ahead of the British and the GDR boat.

In the absence of the Norwegians, Hart and Baillieu won the title at the 1977 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. In 1978 in New Zealand, the Norwegians won ahead of Hart and Baillieu.

In addition to the double scull, Michael Hart was also at the start for Cambridge in the Boat Race and won this traditional race in 1972 and 1973.
