Jiménez is a municipality with around 41,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 10,789.6 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is José Mariano Jiménez .
The municipality is named after José Mariano Jiménez , an insurgent in the Mexican War of Independence .
geography
The municipality of Jiménez is located in the southeast of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1000 m and 2300 m . More than 99% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte ; 81% of the municipality lies in the hydrological region of the endorheic basin of the Bolsón de Mapimí , 19%, however, in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and drains into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is determined to 61% by alluvion with 16% limestone , 10% conglomerate rock and 3% basalt ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Calcisol (50%), Leptosol (28%), Regosol (5%) and Vertisol (4%). About three quarters of the municipality is taken up by the scrub landscape, 15% are used as pasture land, 5% are used for arable farming.
The municipality borders on the municipalities Camargo , Coronado , López and Casas Grandes as well as on the states of Coahuila and Durango .

The 2010 census counted 41,265 people in 10,904 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 420 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 277 speakers of the Tarahumara language . 4.5 percent of the population was illiterate. 16,004 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 70% were men and 6.8% were unemployed. 3.5 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
