NGC 4902 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb and lies in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 114 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 ly. Together with NGC 4897 and NGC 4899 , it forms the small galaxy group LGG 321.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 4862 , NGC 4887 , NGC 4924 .

The supernovae SN 1979E , SN 1991X ( Type-Ia ) and SN 2011A (Type-IIn) were observed here.

The object was discovered on February 8, 1785 by William Herschel .
