NGC 4917 is a 13.9 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBb in the constellation Canes Venatici on the northern sky . It is an estimated 333 million light years from the Milky Way and about 145,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 4901 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 20, 1828 .
