NGC 4922 (also called NGC 4922 A or NGC 4922-1 ) is a 13.24 mag bright elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type "E0" in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 317 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy belongs to the Coma galaxy cluster and forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair with the non-NGC object PGC 86794 (also called NGC 4922 B or NGC 4922-2 ) .
The galaxies IC 842 , IC 843 , IC 4032 , IC 4088 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 19, 1865 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest , who noted "pretty bright, small, round, a little brighter towards the middle, with a star of 11th or 12th magnitude following".
