NGC 4908 is a 13.2 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type "E2" in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 224 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 65,000 ly. The galaxy is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster , Abell 1656 .
The galaxies IC 4040 , IC 4041 , IC 4042 , IC 4051 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 11, 1785 .
This discovery is led differently by different historical astronomers and catalog creators. Guillaume Bigourdan and Boris Alexandrowitsch Voronzow-Veljaminow assign this observation to the galaxy IC 4051 , while John Herschel incorrectly assigns it to the galaxy NGC 4894 under "h 1510" .
