NGC 7549 is a barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBc in the constellation Pegasus asm northern sky . It is an estimated 220 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 170,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 7550 it forms the galaxy pair Arp 99 and together with NGC 7547 , NGC 7553 and NGC 7558 the galaxy group HCG 93 .

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with an elliptical companion on one arm (Arp catalog) .

The type Ia supernova SN 2009nq and the type II supernova candidate NAME AT 2019fya were observed here.

The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on November 2, 1850 .
