In the playoff final , the ZSC Lions were Swiss champions against HC Lugano , while the SCL Tigers won the league directly in the playouts. The loser of the play-outs, SC Rapperswil-Jona , won the league qualification against the NLB master, the EHC Chur , and thus remained in the NLA.

The ten teams played two double rounds of 18 games each. This was followed by a single round (nine games) and the best eight teams determined the Swiss champions in playoff style. Quarter-finals , semi-finals and the final were each played according to the Best of Seven mode .

The last two teams determined in the play-outs (in the Best of Seven mode) the team that had to play against the champions of National League B to stay relegated.
