Nina Stojanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Нина Стојановић ; born July 30, 1996 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian tennis player .
Career
Stojanović started playing tennis at the age of six ; she prefers the hard court. She mostly plays tournaments on the ITF Women's Circuit , where she has won nine singles and 23 doubles titles so far. Although she was in the main field at the junior competitions of all four Grand Slams, she always failed in the first round.
In Navi Mumbai she was able to win her first ITF title in the $ 25,000 category coming from the qualification at the end of 2014. In 2016 she finished in the top 200 of the world rankings for the first time after her biggest triumph to date at the $ 50,000 ITF tournament in Liuzhou and three other finals on the ITF tour. At the US Open , she was in the qualifying round for a Grand Slam tournament for the women for the first time, but has already lost her opening match.
At the beginning of 2017 she was able to qualify for the main draw at her first participation in a Women's Tennis Association tournament in Shenzhen and advance to the quarter-finals, where she had to admit defeat to Kateřina Siniaková in straight sets. Then Stojanović tried to work his way through smaller WTA tournaments, but remained without a win at WTA level until the end of the season. Since she was eliminated in the first qualifying round of all Grand Slam tournaments, she fell far behind in the world rankings . In 2018 she only won one ITF title in Baotou , China.
After she had to pause the first few months in 2019 due to an injury, she surprised at the WTA tournament in Nuremberg by reaching the quarter-finals from qualification. Also in Jurmala , Latvia , where she won her first WTA title in doubles alongside Sharon Fichman against the first seeded Jeļena Ostapenko and Galina Voskobojewa and beat a top 50 player in the first round in singles against Aljaksandra Sasnovich for the first time, as well in Guangzhou she made the round of the last eight; in Nanchang even her first semi-final, in which she was defeated by the eventual winner Rebecca Peterson . In October, after two triumphs in tournaments in the $ 50,000 category in Poitiers , she celebrated her biggest title to date with a two-set win in the final against Lyudmila Samsonova , making it into the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time.
Due to her improved world ranking position, Stojanović was in her first Grand Slam main field at the Australian Open 2020 after seven missed attempts from qualification, but failed in round one to Anastassja Pavlyuchenkova . In doubles, she and Darija Jurak made it to the round of 16, as in 2018, alongside Viktorija Golubic , where they lost to the top seeded Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová .
For the Serbian Fed Cup team , Stojanović has played a total of 18 games in singles and doubles since 2014, of which she was able to win nine (individual balance 2: 6).
