Karl-Erik Åström's victory came as a big surprise. To this day he is considered to be the only cross-country skier to win all the competitions at the Olympic Games and Nordic World Ski Championships in which he participated.

Ivar Odd Formo was the father of the 1976 Olympic champion Ivar Formo .

Olavi Alakulppi , who started for the USA, had previously crowned himself world champion with the Finnish relay in Zakopane in 1939 . He emigrated to the USA in 1945, probably also because of his involvement in the controversial Weapons Cache Case and served in the US Army . During his service in West Germany in the 1950s, the future world star Elvis Presley was his personal chauffeur.

Jack Wahlberg was born in Sweden in 1905 and emigrated to Canada in 1926/27. At 44 he is probably still the oldest participant in a 4 × 10 km relay race at the Winter Olympics or Nordic World Ski Championships, closely followed by the Italian Maurilio de Zolt at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer at the age of 43. He remained loyal to the sport into old age and won the 15 km race at the Canadian Masters Championships in 1982 in the age group over 70.

Crosby Perry-Smith was the son of the American mountaineer and ski pioneer Oliver Perry-Smith .
