At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1933 , which took place from February 6th to 13th in the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck in Austria , three cross-country skiing competitions were announced. The competition over a distance of up to 18 km was held for the tenth time at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1933.
The 18 km run took place on Friday, February 10, 1933 in Seefeld in Tirol . Cross-country skiing was originally planned in the Mutters area , but had to be relocated to Seefeld due to the lack of snow. The start was at 9 a.m. at the start and finish point on Leutascherstrasse on the western outskirts of Seefeld.
The Swede Nils Englund won ahead of his compatriot Hjalmar Bergström and the Finn Väinö Liikkanen . For Englund, then 26, it was the first of a total of six world championship medals that he was able to win in the course of his career. The sixth place of Berchtesgadener Friedl Däuber , known more as an alpine skier, was surprising, making him the best Central European in the competition.

The 4 × 10 km relay from 1933 won the first medal for Austria in a cross-country discipline.
This was the first ever relay race in a World Championship or Olympiad.
In the absence of the Finnish and Norwegian relays, the Swedish team was in a class of their own. Pre Erik Hedlund had 40 seconds ahead of Germany after the first lap. Sven Utterström made a brilliant race on the second lap and handed over with almost three and a half minutes ahead of Austria. Nils-Joel Englund extended the lead to over four minutes, this time ahead of Czechoslovakia. In the last lap Herbert Leupold made an impressive race for the German Reich and almost reached the medal ranks.
Sources vary with regard to the composition and starting order of the Austrian and Polish relays. Most current sources list the Austrian season in the order with Hugo Gstrein - Hermann Gadner - Balthasar Niederkofler - Harald Paumgarten and the Polish season with Bronislaw Czech - Stanislaw Karpiel - Andrzej Marusarz - Stanislaw Marusarz. Two sources listed below list the order analogous to the table above. The deviation was probably caused by the entry lists submitted on the one hand and the actual starting order in the race itself. Therefore, due to the different sources, it is not possible to determine an exact order.
