Building description

The castle consists of a residential building on the southeast corner and the former farm buildings. On the obtuse-angled south side there is another, bastion-like tower.

history

Oberaufseß Castle
House on the estate

The name Oberaufseß is first mentioned in a document from 1326. The name does not refer to a castle, but only to the area.

In 1676 Aufseß Castle , later also called Unteraufseß, came to the brothers Friedrich and Karl Heinrich von Aufseß . Due to disputes between these two brothers, Karl Heinrich von Aufseß had Oberaufseß Castle built from 1690. The complex is a castle that was relatively strongly fortified for this period. In 1692, Bamberg's troops tried in vain to conquer it. The castle is still owned by the Barons von und zu Aufseß and is the family residence.

The administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century made the place part of the independent rural community of Aufseß, to which the village of Heckenhof also belonged. In 1987 Oberaufseß had 19 inhabitants.

Attractions

In Oberaufseß there are several architectural monuments, the most important of which is the castle, a three-storey half-hipped roof building from 1690.
